Control Medications

Control medications reduce swelling and inflammation that restricts a person’s airways during an asthma attack. Thus, the control medications expand the airway to release stress on the respiratory system; so the asthmatic may breathe normally. These medications are also known as anti-inflammatory medications. A few different types of control medications exist, including: corticosteroids, theophylline and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications.

An asthma specialist can prescribe an anti-inflammatory to help you control your asthma symptoms. To schedule an appointment with an asthma specialist, contact the Alabama Asthma Center.
